I'm new here, but I'm not shy so I'm gonna jump in. bigH2O is short for bigwater... a nickname that was given to me by all of my river running buddies several years back when I came home from paddling the New, the Meadow and the Gauley. I was astonished at all of the "big water" there was in West Virginia and I couldn't quit telling stories about those rivers. They named me bigwater as a joke, and it stuck.

speaking of a young internet, my first connection to the net was through a 'appropriated college account' way before the web. my modem was a 300 baud....then i saved up and bought a 2400....man now that was smoking fast.

First time I paddled the New it was at 3.5 feet. They tell newbies not to do it above 1 foot. All the rapids had merged until the three Keeney Brothers became one gigantic rapid. What a freaking mess. I had all the rapids listed on a piece of paper in a waterproof pouch, but lost track of where I was about 15 minutes into the trip, because every rapid was the same single rapid. When I hit Greyhound Bus Stopper I was freaking terrorized. Ask me and I'll tell you the story about paddling down under the gorge bridge on Bridge Day.

Ive never kayaked or rafted....but I do go on some of the tamer rapids/falls canoe fishing.....but just across the boarder in Virginia. I live in the southern most part of WV on the Va boarder. But not far from good whitewater....and would like to try it sometime.

Usually when I come to WV I spend most of my time in a canoe (the one in my avatar), but If I get ready to go rafting up there, I'll give you a shout. I guide the Ocoee down here all the time, and have guided the Gauley a couple of times. Take my word for it though, you don't want to go ANYWHERE near the Middle Meadow.

Oh My God!! You gave me a flash back. The first internet connection I had was on a 486 sx IBM PS/2 with a 2400 baud modem and 4mb of ram running AOL 2.0 on win 95. WooHoo!
1/2 hour just to load a page and forget seeing any images.
I still have the modem in my parts bin just because nobody ever believes me.
Snoopy fan huh? I'll bet you have the same T-shirt I do. It's Joe Cool sitting surfing the internet! LOL
