wireless network packets recieved 0

hey everybody
I have an ad-hoc wireless network at home to link 2 computers together (one upstairs one downstairs). I can connect to the network with no problems and the signal strength is good but both pc's are sending packets but not recieving any.

We had it working before but i reformatted my hard drive due to it breaking. It is really getting on my nerves now!
please tell me what to do to fix it or if you have the same problem.

Make sure they are both in the same workgroup

Do you have any firewalls setup? They may be blocking inbound packets.

I have had enough with trying to do this so i cheated my way out and bought a router. You hook em up and they pretty much configure themselves. Thanks for all your help but i just got fed up in the end.
